BEIJING, June 13 -- A series of recent movies from Japan will be screened in Shanghai this month during the Japanese Film Festival, a section of the 10th Shanghai International Film Festival, which runs from June 16 to 24.

    The Japanese festival, which runs from June 17 to 23, will also include animation workshops and an exhibition on the theme of Japanese culture.

    The 13 Japanese films to be screened include "Love and Honor" by famous director Yoji Yamada, ancient costume drama "O-Oku" starring well-known actress Yukie Nakama, the fantasy epic "Dororo" and the animated feature "Brave Story."

    "All the movies were made within the past two years," said Qian Jianping, an organizer of the event. "We also plan to take several good, recent Chinese films to the panorama section of the 20th Tokyo International Film Festival in October."

    The movies will be shown at four local theaters - Shanghai Film Art Center, Paradise Warner Cinema City, UME International Cineplex and Stellar Cinema City - in the original Japanese version with both English and Chinese subtitles.

    A screening schedule and information about the movies can be found at the Shanghai film festival's Website (www.siff.com). Tickets for the films cost between 35 yuan (4.6 U.S. dollars) and 60 yuan.

    Audience members at the screening of "Love and Honor" will have the chance to talk with Yamada, while those taking in "O-Oku" will be able to chat with director Toru Hayashi and actor Hidetoshi Nishijima.

    An exhibition about Japanese film making will also be held at the Super Brand Mall in Pudong from June 18 to 23.
