NEW YORK, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush will meet with Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas Wednesday on the sidelines of the 61st session of the UN General Assembly, U.S. national security adviser Stephen Hadley said on Monday.
"We support voices of moderation. Obviously, President Abbas is one. He is committed to peace, and we have worked with him and would continue to work with him," Hadley said.
Hadley also urged the militant Hamas to renounce violence, recognize Israel and accept the peace agreements between Israel and Palestine. "We hope they (Hamas) would," he said.
Bush is expected to meet with Abbas on Wednesday morning and this will be their first meeting since 2005.
The United States has voiced support for Abbas as a moderate leader, but has stopped all aid to the Palestinian government headed by Hamas. Enditem
