SEOUL, May 15 (Xinhua) -- A delegation of the South
Korean Red Cross is to seek medical cooperation including exchange of human
resources with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) during an
upcoming visit to Pyongyang, a Red Cross official said Monday.
"Inter-Korean cooperation in the medical sector is
necessary for the future of Koreans," said Chang Suk-jun, secretary-general of
the Red Cross, in an interview with local cable TV MBN.
"The most important thing in the inter-Korean medical
cooperation is the exchange of human resources working in the medical sector,"
he said, adding that the South Korean Red Cross plans to discuss ways to train
DPRK medical manpower and provide medical equipment to the country during its
head's visit to Pyongyang.
South Korean Red Cross President Han Wan-sang,
accompanied by 40 people including heads of South Korean hospitals, will fly to
Pyongyang on Tuesday for a five-day visit.
The Yonhap News said Han will send medical supplies
and equipment worth more than 3.7 billion won, or 3.9 million U.S. dollars, to
the DPRK during his trip.
Han is also expected to discuss the reunions of
separated families from the two Koreas with his counterpart in the DPRK and try
with efforts to expand the number and scale of the reunions.
