PYONGYANG, April 21 (Xinhua) -- A high-level South
Korean delegation arrived on Friday in Pyongyang, capital of the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), to resume the inter-Korean ministerial talk
previously scheduled for March.
Lee Jong-seok, the Minister of Unification and head of the South Korean delegation, was greeted by the
DPRK delegation at the Pyongyang Sun-an Airport, the official Korean Central
News Agency reported.
The 18th round of the ministerial meeting will begin
on Saturday and focus on security and economic and humanitarian cooperation in
the Korean Peninsula, the report said.
The talk, this year's first, was planned to be held
in Pyongyang from March 28 to March 31. But the DPRK decided to postpone it due
to joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea.
In early April, the DPRK proposed to restart the
ministerial meeting.
"The current situation and circumstances are not that
good, but there have hardly been times when the situation and circumstances were
easy," Lee told reporters before leaving Seoul.
The last inter-Korea ministerial meeting was held on
Chejudo Island, South Korea, in December 2005. Enditem |
