BEIJING, April 3 -- A team of journalists from CNN are running around Shanghai this week for a series of programs documenting China's cultural, economic and social developments.
As the second series of "Eye on China," the program zooms in on Shanghai.
Anchor Kristie Lu Stout will spend the week reporting live from locations such as the Bund, while Jim Clancy conducted a panel discussion on environment issues at the Shanghai Concert Hall.
Shanghai-native Liu Xiang, an Olympic gold medal winning hurdler, will talk to Stan Grant on "Talk Asia."
Local restaurants will also be featured in a look at authentic Shanghainese food.
"We consider 'Eye on China' a landmark program for CNN," said Debra Kocher, vice president of CNN International. CNN broadcast its first "Eye on China" series last May, focusing on Beijing.
Shanghai was picked for the second part as the city is rising as a powerful financial center, she said.
"This program about China is good - we can let more Americans know about China," said Qian Yi, a professor of Environmental Engineering at Tsinghua University, and one of five panelists on "The Price of Progress."
"The program will be helpful to solve the problems. We have to do more practical work," added Qian.
Qian and her fellow panelists debated how to balance China's economic growth with the environmental challenges development can present.
Topics include the severe environmental problems in China, how the problems expand and what solutions people should think about.
The other four panelists were James Harkness, former China director of Worldwide Fund for Nature; Mu Jun, an environmental consultant; Sheri Liao, founder of Global Village Beijing and Wang Xiangrong, a Fudan professor. Enditem
