NAIROBI, June 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Olympic 3,000 meters steeplechase champion Reuben Kosgei could not realize his dream to defend the title at Athens Olympics as he failed to book a berth in the national team in the Kenya athletics Olympic trials here on Saturday.

Kosgei, who suffered a serious ankle injury, dropped out of contention on the final day of the trials for a place in the national team.

Paul Kipsiele Koech, despite finishing the trial out of top 10,was named into the Olympic squad as he recorded the world's best time of 8:05:31 at the Seville Grand Prix meeting in Spain early this month.

Olympic 1,500m champion Noah Ngeny, 25, who has been plagued byinjuries, also failed on Friday to qualify for the Athens Games. Enditem
